What America Means to Me, as Seen by Georgian Schoolchildren Art Contest
As part of the American Corner opening ceremonies in Khashuri and Gori, the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy sponsored art contests for schoolchildren in each city. In Khashuri, the theme was, "What America Means to Me" and in Gori, the theme was, "America As Seen Through the Eyes of Georgian Children". Participants ranged in age from 9 to 16 years old. Many art pieces submitted featured the Statue of Liberty, skyscrapers, images of September 11th, Mickey Mouse, or Hollywood. Levan Kakiashvili, age 16, earned one of the grand prize places for his picture of Mt. Rushmore. In addition to Levan, Khashuri winners included: Irma Chadashvili, Marian Tskhovrebashvili, Teona Gotsiridze, and Nikoloz Tabatadze. Gori winners included: Nino Asanidze, Mariam Martiashvili. Keti Khaduri, Teona Vanishvili, and Tiko Levanishvili. The artworks are currently displayed in the new American Corners in Khashuri and Gori.
