Smithsonian Institute experts visiting the Georgian National Museum

For four days Dr. Carol Nevis, Dr. Alan Knezevich and Dr. Robert J. Koestler, experts from the Smithsonian Institution, conducted a special workshop for the Georgian National Museum management staff. Topics included in the workshop were the educational role of museums in the 21st century, how museums can be integrated into educational processes, how museums can develop exhibitions that support school curricula and how different disciplines can be taught at museums through diverse activities. All three speakers focused on different aspects of the role of museums in the educational process. The workshop was attended by about 40 representatives from 8 different museums. This speaker program was a continuation of the partnership between the U.S. Embassy and the Georgian National Museum that started two years ago.

During their stay in Tbilisi, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Georgian National Museum and the Smithsonian Institution. From the Georgian side, the Memorandum was signed by Dr. David Lordkipanidze, General Director of the Georgian National Museum; Dr. Nevis, Director of the Office of Policy and Analysis, signed on behalf of the Smithsonian Institution.
