Discussing American Political Campaigns at the Telavi American Corner
U.S. Embassy Political Officer Alan Purcell spoke to a group about political campaigns in the United States on January 25 at the American Corner in Telavi. The presentation covered the process of electing an American president, including primaries and caucuses, party conventions, and other traditions that have developed through American history. Purcell showed the group his collection of American political campaign buttons dating back to the 1930s. Purcell and the group discussed the similarities and differences between the American and Georgian political systems, the qualities Americans look for in a President, and the effect of an election on U.S. foreign policy.
