Political Officer Deb Miller Reviews the Legacy of Thurgood Marshall in Kutaisi

Embassy Political Officer Deborah Miller spoke to a class of American Studies students and faculty at Kutaisi State University on March 14th about Thurgood Marshall.  Ms. Miller discussed the challenges the African American community faced throughout American history, and how Thurgood Marshall’s successful efforts to outlaw segregation was a significant milestone for civil rights.  The presentation opened up lively discussion about the time and effort it took America to abandon segregation both physically and mentally.  Students then asked broader civil rights questions about the salary-gap between men and women in America today.  Ms. Miller emphasized that change, no matter what the issue, takes time and commitment.
