Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch Of The Georgian Orthodox Church And US Ambassador John Tefft Celebrate The English Translation Of “Lives Of The Georgian Saints”
On April 12, 2007, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of the Georgian Orthodox Church and U.S. Ambassador John Tefft congratulated David and Lauren Ninoshvili and the monks of St. Herman of Alaska Monastery in Platina, California on the successful translation of “Lives of the Georgian Saints” into English. The translation’s presentation at the Gallery Universe in Tbilisi was a success, attracting many Georgians and foreigners alike. At the reception, guests enjoyed exhibits on past notable figures and events within the Georgian Orthodox Church, Georgian ecclesiastical chants, and hors d’oeuvres. The reception was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy.
With the blessing of Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, Mr. and Mrs. Ninoshvili translated the book, while the monks from St. Herman of Alaska in Platina, California edited and checked the translation for accuracy. The translation is sold in English bookstores around Georgia and in Georgian Orthodox churches. Illustrated by icons, photographs and paintings, the book is integral for an in-depth understanding of Georgian culture. |
