Embassy Democracy Grantees Participate in the Grand Civil Society Fair
During May 4-5, the Expo-Georgia Exhibition Hall in Didube hosted the second annual Civil Society Fair, supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Open Society Georgia Foundation, and Eurasia Foundation.
More than 70 non-governmental organizations (NGO) from all over Georgia participated in this year’s Fair. The U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section, which administers the Democracy Commission Grant Program for Georgian NGOs, was particularly pleased to observe presentations by its former and current Democracy Program grantees. Among organizers and presenters were: United Nations Association of Georgia (UNAG), Association of Young Economists of Georgia, Civil Society Institute, Partners Georgia, International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED), Cultural Humanitarian Foundation Sukhumi, Young Scientist’s Club of Ozurgeti, and Guria Youth Resource Center.
In addition to NGOs, the audience included local and international foundations, embassies, members of the business community, government and media. The fair demonstrates that Georgia has a vibrant NGO community. Two-days of presentations on NGO programs and services showcased the achievements of NGOs and how they are playing an active role in the decision-making process. The fair is a step forward to increasing public motivation and the development of Democracy and Civil Society, which is one of the central goals of the U.S. Mission in Georgia.
