Ambassador Tefft Meets Future Leaders (FLEX)
On July 17, 2008, fifty newly-selected Future Leaders’ Exchange Program (FLEX) participants and newly-returned FLEX alumni gathered at the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence. FLEX alumni spoke about their experiences in the U.S. Sopho Asatiani and Shalva Merebashvili showed photographs of themselves with Hillary Clinton and John McCain, respectively. Avto Koridze talked about working as a volunteer on Barack Obama’s campaign. Petre Dzindzibadze fascinated the audience with his story about saving a five-year old child from drowning in a river. Lela Jgerenaia and Zurab Tsnobiladze recited poetry they had written for FLEX. Zaur Pirtskhalaishvili told the Ambassador about the winning field goal he kicked against his American high school’s arch rival in an important football game. Representatives from the Ministry of Education, American Councils, and the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy also attended the event.
