U.S. Navy Ship Visits Port of Poti

U.S. Navy ship Porter, an Arleigh Burke class destroyer, will be in the port of Poti April 7-10 to support U.S. Navy training with the Georgian Navy. The ship will offer training on-board for the Georgian Navy on April 8. The U.S.S. Porter, captained by Commander Douglas Nashold, is on a routine six-month deployment to the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Activities include training and exchange on damage control, search and seizure, force protection, and non-commissioned officer development. In the words of U.S Navy Commodore Bob Lolly, Commander of Task Force 67, “Our participation in this port visit and future engagement help to strengthen our emerging partnership with Georgia. Engagements such as this one go a long way to improve interoperability and foster goodwill and a spirit of teamwork. We look forward to a great port visit and are very excited about the host of initiatives that are currently being considered by both of our countries. Continued dialogue and engagement will only help improve future Navy-to-Navy relations and advance our collective interests in Black Sea security and maritime awareness.”
