2009 Cochran Fellowship Program
The US Embassy in Tbilisi is pleased to announce the opening of the annual United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Cochran Fellowship Program (CFP) competition for short-term (2-3 weeks) training in the U.S. for senior and mid-level agriculturists, managers and administrators concerned with agricultural development, trade, agribusiness management and marketing from the public and private sectors. CFP is part of the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service, Office of Capacity Building and Development, Trade and Scientific Exchanges Division.
Program objectives are to assist Georgia to develop agricultural systems necessary to meet the food needs of its domestic populations; and to strengthen and enhance trade linkages with other countries.
In Fiscal Year 2009 priority topics for Georgia will be: a) Animal health (Animal diseases control, Animal genetics, Animal nutrition) and veterinary services; b) Agricultural Statistics; c) Leasing in Agriculture; d) Agricultural research and education; e) Irrigation systems; f) Agronomy.
Command of the English and Russian language is preferred but not required (oral communication).
Application forms may be picked up at the US Embassy front guard office, or obtained through the Embassy web page http://georgia.usembassy.gov. September 3, 2008 is the deadline for submitting an application. Interviews will be held September 11 and 12, 2008 at the USDA office in the U.S. Embassy.
