The American Ambassador to Georgia

The American Ambassador to Georgia is the personal representative of the President of the United States. He is charged with ensuring that the U.S. Mission effectively carries out the foreign policy of the United States with respect to Georgia. He also endeavors to make United States policies better known and understood in Georgia and assures that policy makers in the United States have the information they need to understand the situation in Georgia.

The Ambassador is assisted by a Deputy Chief of Mission, who assumes the title of Charge d'Affaires ad interim when the Ambassador is away from Georgia. Currently the mission is headed by Ambassador John F. Tefft.
